Apples & Winter Desserts

Apples & Winter Desserts

One of the things we love most about winter is the fact that it is the season to finish the meal with a wholesome hot dessert – preferably with clotted cream or ice cream… or maybe both?!

Apples are especially prominent on winter dessert menus. Not only are they comforting but the fruit component makes us feel the dessert must be healthy too – only if the sugar content is restrained like in our desserts.  Not too sweet, letting the fructose sing through but just sweet enough to make your taste buds tingle.

When we think apple desserts, we think of classic apple pies, crumbles, baked apples, tarte tatin and apple cake. And what better to way to add a complimentary sour note to your apple dessert than with a handful of berries. Throwing in some antioxidants to add another layer of health ticks to our dessert treats.

So this month we are celebrating our humble and utterly delicious, family Apple Berry Crumble! Just heat in the microwave or oven, and serve with ice cream, cream or yoghurt. You can also add a spoon of fresh berries to really lift the flavours.

We recommend keeping one in the freezer, ready to go for any occasion.
